Located in the outskirts of Bombay at Palaspe, Panvel, the Gurukul was started in 1988 by late Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar.

The Gurukul's focus has been to:

  • provide training in Dhrupad (both vocal and instrumental)
  • expose students to various styles of Dhrupad through concerts and workshops by senior musicians.
  • organise "Barsi", a yearly three day Dhrupad festival, inviting exponents of various Dhrupad gharanas.
  • organise monthly "Baithaks" as interactive sessions between senior performing students and the students of the Gurukul.
.

Since the demise of Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar in 1990, the Gurukul has continued to function under the guidance of his wife Smt. Pramila Dagar, younger brother Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar, and son Baha'ud'din Mohiuddin Dagar.
